Dear Fellow Rotarians:
With the beginning of the new academic year, I am happy to report that all five of our Service Above Self Scholarship recipients have visited us to receive their scholarship checks. Those of you who were present when these recipients joined us at our luncheon meetings had to be impressed with the quality of character and dedication exhibited by these young people. Our investment in their continuing education will pay dividends for our community and society in the future. Who knows, we might even have some of them join our ranks in Rotary after they have graduated college and entered the workforce. All of these students, given their past history of community service, would make great Rotarians.
We have much to accomplish in 2016-2017. Our Club, as well as Rotary International, stands at a critical juncture, one that will determine what comes next. We have provided service to our community, region, and the world in many ways, but the needs are indeed great and we are being asked to do even more. Will we meet this challenge?
With determinationa and enthusiasm, we as Rotarians can be an even greater force for good in the world. As Paul Harris said, "Individual effort may be turned to individual needs, but combined effort should be dedicated to the service of mankind. The power of combined effort knows no limitation." Yes, we may be a relatively small Rotary Club, but there are smaller ones that are even more effective. We are challenged, therefore, to achieve even greater deeds even as it is our responsibility to join with our brothers and sisters in Rotary to achieve them. It is our privilege to carry forth the tradition of Rotary Serving Humanity.
