  RCHT Meeting Mar 16, 2017 Mar 16, 2017 John DeSantis told the powerful story he personally researched and brought to light of a massacre that happened in Thibodaux in 1887 where at least 30 black laborers were killed as a labor strike on sugar turned into a violent racial attack. He wrote a book from his research titled "The Thibodaux Massacre" which can be found around town at most local bookshops.

Writing in a journal as a coping mechanism, Ms. Sanders published a book of her journal entries, titled "Days with My Father's Ghost" to help others going through the same experience.

As Director of the Parish's Coastal Restoration & Preservation Department, Mart updated us on all the coastal projects around the Parish and gave a status update on each.

  RCHT Meeting August 25, 2016 Aug 25, 2016 Lawrence DeHart spoke to us today on behalf of the Good Samaritan Food Bank. The economic downturn has caused the local food bank to become inundated with families needing assistance. They always need volunteers to help, especially Saturday's from 8am-12pm, and need donations to keep food on the shelves. This is an excellent way to get service hours and for anyone willing to help make a difference in their community.

  RCHT Meeting July 28, 2016 Jul 28, 2016 David Konur, CEO of Cardiovascular Institute of the South gave us all something to think about, as he spoke about Longevity and what factors influence our life span. He told a heartwarming story about three sisters from Minden, LA who he was very close to, the eldest being Maggie Mae Thornton Renfro that lived to be 114. Her two sisters lived to be 103 and 107, making them the oldest set of siblings ever on record.
  RCHT Meeting July 21, 2016 Jul 21, 2016 We had a special guest with us today- Clancy DuBos, Chairman and Co-Owner of Gambit Communications (Political Editor of Gambit Weekly) and on-air commentator for WWL-TV's Eyewitness News. Clancy gave us some insight into the upcoming local election races in November.

  RCHT Meeting Mar 26, 2016 May 26, 2016 Tara Detiveaux with Hope Extreme Inc. brought some of the kids she works with to our meeting and gave us a report of the amazing work they're doing for the kids of east Houma's urban youth. She's excited to report they're opening a new facility at 437 Grand Caillou Rd., which should be able to service even more kids. Great job Tara to you and your kids!!

Construction expected to begin early 2016!

  RCHT Meeting Sept 17, 2015 Sep 17, 2015 Past Rotary District Governor, Mark LaCour spoke to our club today on how the Rotary Foundation is a world leader in charitable giving and leading programs such as polio eradication in the world. He recently traveled to India to administer polio vaccines through Rotary and shared his story. He also brought a traditional Indian shawl and his anti-polio gear for show and tell which can be seen in the photos.

Particularly, the proper use of various fire extinguishers. Lastly, he closed with a funny story of an incident with a guy which threw an entire fire extinguisher into a fire. His message was "know what extinguisher you have and how to use it".

They also shared personal biographies and photos of their family and history. It was a pleasure to see what a difference rotary is making.
  RCHT Meeting Mar. 13, 2014 Mar 13, 2014 Stan Gravois, Director of the TGMC Community Sports Institute, gave an overview of the new program at our local hospital designed to challenge the students of Terrebonne Parish to lead healthier lives. Gravois said the initial thrust of the program is to better educate young athletes and coaching staffs of the public and private schools on proper ways to participate in sporting events, especially during training sessions – emergency medical personnel are usually available only during large sporting events.

Well Mike Millet joins us to discuss many safety measures and preventatives against a fire. He shared with us many previous fires, what caused them, and how we can learn from them.
